Okay, this will be bugging me for like, a long time, and if I don't write it out now, I probably won't finish my homework.Faking Gay Onstage? Discussion Against "StageGay"
First and foremost, I am in disagreement. I am enraged that they would compare it to blackface, because in no way do these bands mean it as a stereotypical and negative image - they are not talking with a lisp, talk about fashion, nor do they wear rainbows. (Except Gerard, but that was his boa.)
What all of these bands repeatedly say is that they hate homophobia - My Chemical Romance left the punk scene because they felt uncomfortable. They tell people to leave their shows and return their merchandise if they are racist/misogynistic/homophobic. (Fall Out Boy also says this.) They've weathered being called "fags" and "gay band" and give a, "sure, but at least I'm not a dick," attitude. Though Pete Wentz has said some stupid things that could be taken as offensive, they aren't doing this to harm people. They aren't doing it for money.
I'm rehashing what a lot of other people have said in much better terms, but let me say this: as a teenager trying to figure out her sexuality, when I see them say these things and do these things, I
feel better. It makes me feel like I'm not weird for being curious or different.
Also, Gerard and Frank talk about their gay fans. Pete being pretty awesome and trying to make me like him a little bit
